Team Connecticut is comprised of 22 athletes, five donor families and five living donors. They are making plans to go to the 2006 U.S. Transplant Games to be held in Louisville, Kentucky from June 16 to 21, 2006.
The U.S. Transplant Games are held bi-annually at various locations throughout the United States. Teams from 51 NKF affiliates compete in 14 different athletic events for gold, silver and bronze medals. The Games are open to all transplant recipients, donor families and living donors.
The Games are life-affirming, heartwarming and fun. Those who participate and compete in the Games show the world that people can go on to live active, productive lives after receiving transplants.
Team Connecticut raises all the money to send team members to the Games. Some of the fundraisers include selling candy, stuffed donor bears, and raffle tickets. They also receive proceeds from events such as the Strawberry Park Campers' Bingo games or fundraisers such as the Halloween Howl. In addition, they will host a Wine Tasting/Art Auction on December 1, 2005 at the Savin Rock Conference Center in West Haven.
New members are welcome to join this wonderful group of individuals with big hopes, big hearts and lots of commitment. Please contact Marcia Hilditch, Team Manager, at the NKF of Connecticut (800-441-1280, Ext. 17). You can also reach Marcia via e-mail at mhilditch@kidneyct.org.
